Local volleyball players have a chance to learn from the best the area has to offer later this month. Perennial state playoff team and multiple-area title-winning Rockdale High School will host an individual skills camp June 23-27 at the Conyers school and players in grades 5th-through-9th are eligible to attend.
Rockdale, which has reached the state tournament the last five seasons and won consecutive area titles in 2010 and 2011, will have a number of players helping out during the five-day camp. The current team will all be attendance to lend a hand, while former players and sisters Libby and Abby Bradford will also be taking part in the camp. Cost for the camp is $75 and includes a free t-shirt.
“This camp will provide you with the skills of volleyball while giving the opportunity to learn and play in a relaxed, fun environment,” said Rockdale coach Stephen Sansing.
Each day, the camp will include an individual instruction session with drills on passing, serving and hitting. In the afternoon, players will work on their individual skills, which includes court movement, and the camp will include plenty of matches. Sansing said the camp isn’t limited to just athletes planning to attend Rockdale.
“We’ll start with the basics and progress up to playing competitive games,” said Sansing. “Our goal is that (players) are ready to tryout for either middle or high school volleyball after you complete this camp. Any new player interested in playing volleyball at Rockdale County High School should attend this camp, however, it is open to all girls at any middle or high school in the area who want to learn how to play or get better at volleyball.”
