COVINGTON — A man sitting in a parked car in front of the probation office in Covington was arrested this week on drugs and weapons charges.
Covington Police Department officers received a call from a resident who reported that it appeared as though some people were rolling a marijuana cigarette outside the business.
When officers arrived at Georgia Probation Management on Usher Street around 1:40 p.m. Thursday, they spoke with the occupants of the car and realized that the person in the backseat, 19-year-old Davante Bailey, was the one suspected of rolling the marijuana cigarette, said CPD Capt. Craig Treadwell.
Lt. Wendell Wagstaff, who also arrived on the scene, received permission from the driver to search the area where Bailey was sitting and found a Colt .45 pistol.
Treadwell said officers searched Bailey and found a .410 shotgun shell in the front left pocket and what was suspected to be a marijuana cigarette in his right rear pocket.
Bailey, of 50 Wynfield Keep, was charged with possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce and possession of a firearm during the commission of crime.
