Post 77 tops Loganville in POW/MIA tourney

Rockdale Post 77 opened the POW/MIA Tournament Thursday with a 10-4 victory over Loganville Post 233. It was a bit of revenge for Post 77, which fell 4-1 to Post 233 in game two of a split Sunday doubleheader between the local rivals after winning the opener 10-7.

Rockdale held on to beat PTC 12-6 in a late game Friday at Hunter Park in Douglasville, moving the Conyers team to 2-0 in the four-day tournament. Against PTC, the game was tied through seven innings and each team scored runs in extra innings before Rockdale broke through for eight runs in the ninth to stay unbeaten in the tournament.

“It’s always good to do that (start 2-0),” said Rockdale coach Jack Murphy, whose team improved to 3-1. “We struggled today, kind of don’t know what to say about it (but) it was a good win.”

Post 77 will play new local rival Covington Post 32 Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The tournament wraps up Sunday.
