Lauren Smith, a graduate of Rockdale County Magnet School for Science and Technology, was one of the five students selected for a $5,000 scholarship from the Delta Community Credit Union. She was selected based on academic achievement, community service and submission of an essay on a topic selected by the credit union.
Smith will major in industrial and labor relations at Georgetown University with the career goal of becoming a federal attorney. She is a Georgia Merit and AP Scholar, scoring four or higher on seven AP exams.
Smith was awarded the George Eastman Young Leaders Award, which recognizes outstanding academic achievement and leadership. She participated in the Governors Honors Program and was selected to present scientific research in Metz, France, as part of the French Research Exchange Program.
Smith founded and served as co-captain of her school’s debate and speech team. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Varsity Envirothon team and was a varsity and competition cheerleader.
Active in her community, Smith created an elementary school tutoring program, and volunteered with the International Water Purification Project, the Single Mother Housing and Beautification Project and the Salvation Army.
