CONYERS — Car enthusiasts will get to exert their passion at the First Baptist Church of Conyers’ Father’s Day Car Show on June 14.
With the intention of celebrating Father’s Day and drawing the community to the church, First Baptist plans for the seventh annual car show to be a fundraiser, and all the proceeds will be going to the church’s Men’s Ministries. Funds collected this year will be used to build homes in Nicaragua. With over 1,500 people attending the show this year, the church will be able to build two homes, each costing $2,100 to construct.
“Last year we had 125 nice cars in our show and one of the cars was a restored 1970 Camaro Nostalgic Funny Car, the Dixie Twister,” said car show chairman Tim Thompson. “This year we are expecting 150-plus cars and will have professional judging by National AMCA judge Jim Parham and Associates.”
Those attending can expect free inflatables for the kids to jump and play in, shaved ice, ice cream, cotton candy and free water. Bradley’s B-B-Q and the Boy Scouts will be serving as food vendors. Entertainment will include a couple of local bands and an Elvis impersonator.
The city of Conyers Police, Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, Rockdale Fire Department, Georgia State Patrol and National EMS will be onsite as well. EMS personnel will display their modern ambulance vehicle, along with a restored 1973 Chevrolet model. GSP will have a 1937 Ford patrol car on display, giving attendees an idea of what police drove almost 80 years ago.
Door prizes will be given away, as well as a grand prize. The show is also looking for tax deductible sponsorships, ranging anywhere from $50 to $1,000. Sponsors will get a wide range of benefits, from banner ads placed throughout Conyers to smaller ads featured on the event’s goodie bags.
The show is free to the general public, and will be held form 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. After the show, Granite Mountain Harley will have a family event, consisting of the Car Cruise, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the John Miles Chevrolet Buick parking lot.
