COVINGTON — Atlanta Braves regional scout and former Jeff Francoeur high school Hugh Buchanan will be among a core group of professional and college scouts conducting a Top 100 showcase at Georgia Perimeter College for rising sophomore through seniors on Wednesday.
Each participant will go through pro-style workouts as well as participating in a game where the scouts will evaluate all prospects giving them a written evaluation on their skills and performance.
The Georgia underclassman scout committee, made up of pro scouts and college coaches, travel the state to evaluate players. From the twelve regional sites, 100 rising seniors along with 60 rising juniors and sophomores will be chosen to participate in a final event at Georgia Gwinnett College in late June.
All players that attend a regional site are graded out by the scout committee and their data is posted on the player’s Individual Player Profile. The player profiles store valuable information including contact information, academic information/transcript, highlight video and season-by-season statistics that each player can then email out to college coaches around the state with the Georgia underclassman recruiting system. This helps each player participating in Georgia underclassman event in the recruiting process and gives them a tool to utilize year round while contacting the colleges that they have interest in attending.
More than 85 schools were in attendance to see the showcase players in last years Georgia underclassman showcase. Beside representatives from the Major League Scouting Bureau, colleges which attended last year’s showcase include Georgia Southern, Georgia Perimeter, Mercer, Auburn, Duke and UGA.
The cost for the showcase is $105 if done online or $110 if done on the day of the event. Walk-up registration begins at 8:15 a.m.
