COVINGTON — Starting Monday children will have a new opportunity to burn some energy and stay cool in the summer heat.
The Covington Family YMCA is hosting a sport and swim camp for boys and girls ages 7 through 11. The camp will offer a variety of sport lessons for basketball, volleyball, flag football, dodgeball and more unique sports like archery and ultimate Frisbee.
After being active in the sun for a couple of hours, the children will then head to the pool for more cooling activities.
YMCA office manager Jennifer Towns said this is the first year the camp has been offered.
“One of the neat things about this camp is we’ll be offering different types of sports than what’s offered at schools or other camps around the county,” Towns said. “We want to try to expose kids to something they won’t get anywhere else.”
Towns said the camp will go on rain or shine. Parents will need to sign up at the YMCA, located at 2140 Newton Drive. The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and continue for four weeks starting Monday and ending July 3. The cost is $90 per week.
Children are asked to bring a water bottle, snacks, sack lunch, sunscreen, swim suit and a towel.
Parents can drop their children off at the Covington Y Outdoor Center, located at 200 Stone Road in Oxford and then pick them up at the main facility on Newton Drive.
