It’s Pat! The Newton County Anima Shelter is taking bids this week on Pat, a boar (or uncut male) pig. The sealed bids will be accepted until noon Friday. The minimum bid is $50. To learn more about Pat or any of the pets ready for adoption, visit the Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal amount of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. To 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. To 1 p.m. On Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.
