Local players to compete in summer baseball tournament

It’s summer baseball tournament time for a number of local players as the East Cobb Invitational 17-under tournament gets going later this week.

The 17-under invitational, which will take place June 5-9, includes the GBSA Blue Rays. The Blue Rays will open against the Arizona Wildfire Baseball Thursday at 2 p.m. at the East Cobb Complex in Marietta with a quartet of local products. GBSA, a team based out of Lithonia, includes Heritage High School’s Freddie Bryant and Justin Jackson, along with Rockdale’s Jelani Clarington and Covington native and rising senior at Redan High School Marquise Glenn.

The Georgia Stars Baseball Academy (Norcross) include Salem rising seniors Braxton Hogan and Jordan Johnson. The Academy will open tournament play Thursday at 4:30 p.m. against SEB 17-under Black at North Gwinnett High School.

Heritage’s Zach Walker and Covington native and Etowah High School rising senior Jonathan Krueger will join the ECB Yankees when they play Prospects National Team Thursday at 2 p.m. at Kennesaw Mountain High School.

Rocky Mauriello, one of Salem’s top pitchers, and Rockdale’s Jake Stowers will be a part of an East Cobb Patriots 17 Red team that plays the Northeast Alabama Athletics on Thursday at 9 a.m. at Cass High School.

Conyers native Justin Robinson, who is a rising senior at Union Grove High School, plays for the Bullpen Braves out of McDonough. The Braves play the Alabama Baseball Academy on Thursday at 2:45 p.m. at Perfect Game Park South in Cartersville.

The tournament will include three days of pool play and a playoff that takes place June 8 to 9.
