A half-dozen local swimmers are headed to Atlanta this week.
The Rockdale Riptides, a Conyers-based swim club, will send six athletes to the 14-Under Long Course State Championship starting today at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
Corey Kidd, a 10-year old, and nine-year old Payton Morrison each qualified in all 11 events, including the 50-freestyle, 100-freestyle, 200-freestyle, 400-freestyle, 50-backstroke, 100-backstroke, 50-breaststroke, 100-breaststroke, 50-butterfly, 100-butterfly and 200-individual medley.
Delaney Willette (13-years old) qualified to swim in nine events: the 50-freestyle, 100-freestyle, 200-freestyle, 400-freestyle, 100-backstroke, 200-backstroke, 200-butterfly, 200-individual medley and 400-individual medley.
Three swimmers will compete in one event. Sean Jackson (14-years old) will swim in the 100-breaststroke; 10-year old Laura Goldgar qualified in the 200-freestyle and Ryan Curry (14-years old) will compete in the 50-freestyle.
The meet will run through July 19 at the school’s aquatic center, which is located at 750 Ferst Drive in Atlanta.
