I love the movie “Casablanca.” The dialogue is amazing. There is not a wasted line in the entire script — and Humphrey Bogart delivers each and every one of his in classic fashion.
There is one exchange between Rick, played by Bogie, in which Ilsa, portrayed by the stunningly beautiful Ingrid Bergman, in which she offers him a franc for his thoughts. She’s French, you know. Rick responded, “In America they would only bring a penny.”
Well, my thoughts might not be worth a penny, but I have a few things that I want to get off my chest today, so I am going to share a few thoughts with anyone who happens to be reading my epistle. As always, they are my thoughts. I am not trying to tell you what to think. If you agree or disagree it doesn’t change my mind one iota. That being said, here we go.
I think we start school too early. Nobody asked me and nobody listens to me, but that’s still what I think. We put kids on buses and transport them during the hottest part of the year and run the air-conditioners full blast while closing down the schools for a week in the most pleasant time of year. Kids miss out on too much summer and don’t get to be kids anymore, and if we do a study of which states perform best academically we will find that all of the ones that start around Labor Day are outperforming the July starters by a country mile. You can look it up. Like I said, I am not asking you to agree with me, merely stating what I think.
I think the United States should stand with Israel, period. I do.
I think we need to close our borders and control the influx of illegals streaming into our country. I think the reason we don’t is that the party in power looks at these immigrants and sees potential votes, and I think that the party in the minority is too gutless to stand up for their principles because they are afraid of losing votes. In fact, I think both parties have pretty much abandoned all principles and the country is on its last legs because of it.
I think Pete Rose belongs in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
I think Barry Bonds does not belong in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
I don’t think at all about LeBron James or the National Basketball Association.
I think Pat Conroy is the greatest Southern writer since Mark Twain.
I think that Barack Obama is the worst thing to happen to America since Warren G. Harding — and that he is much more dangerous. I think he lied about Benghazi and about his involvement in the IRS scandal, and I think Obamacare will eventually destroy the initiative of the people in health care who currently make life-changing discoveries every day.
I think he was born in Kenya, too.
I think marriage should be between one man and one woman — period.
