The Rotary Club of Conyers recently celebrated its 2013-14 Rotary year, installing a new club president and honoring members for their service.

Dotti Bala, owner of Copy Central, was recognized as the club’s Rotarian of the Year for her chairmanship of the club’s membership committee. Bala helped recruit more than eight new members.

“Dotti is truly one of the club’s unsung heroes and behind-the-scenes leaders,” outgoing Rotary Club of Conyers President Neal Stanford said.

The club also honored Donald R. Lewis, a retired real estate broker and Conyers resident, for his 40 years of perfect attendance at the Rotary Club of Conyers.

The club installed Thua G. Barlay, a local attorney with Barlay Law Group LLC, as Rotary Club of Conyers president for the upcoming 2014-15 Rotary year. Barlay is a graduate of both Leadership Rockdale and Leadership Georgia and has served on the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce board, both as general secretary/counsel and chairman.

“The heart of our club is our members and the various roles that we each play in our community. People join our club not because of what we do within the community, but who we are within our community,” Barlay said upon his installation.

The Rotary Club of Conyers is a service club that meets Thursdays at noon at Cameron Hall on Green Street in Conyers.
