JULIE WELLS: Return to the heart of Jesus and do good for the world

I pray for all of us — that we return to the heart of Jesus.

How do we do that, you ask? We have got to make Him the center of our universe, literally. We have so long ago pushed Jesus out of our lives and allowed Him out of the decisions that are ever so important to us and our future generations. Be it ever so slowly, we have allowed little things to become great things over time and we have not even realized it.

We can fuss and rant, rage and shake our fists in the air, but none of those things are as effective as seeking His will for this crazy world through prayer, fasting and gaining knowledge of His world.

I watch the news, read the newspapers and see articles on the Internet, and I sit and shake my head. What in the world has this world come to?

Then my daughter, Joy, pops in my head, and I wonder what in the world will things be like in this country when she becomes a young adult. It makes me sad, to be completely honest with you.

I saw a sign the other day. The background was a light tan color. The lettering was in two different colors. Although the sign read “Believe There Is Good In The World,” some of the letters were in a blue color and those letters said this: “Be The Good.”

We can only be good because Jesus is good. We can only do good because He instills in us the desire to be above reproach, to go the extra mile and to do what is right.

We need some good in this world, a lot more of it than we have now. We Christians, His chosen people, need to be the good that people see. I’m not talking about going around and be “holier than thou,” because we are not. Remember because it is by His grace, and His grace alone are we saved.

But we are called to stand up for what we believe in, and we should also be acting the person we believe in, our Holy Savior.

I ask you to remember where your freedom truly comes from and I also ask you to Be The Good in this world. We need for non-believers to see that Jesus is our only hope and that He is the only Savior of this place we love and call America.

God Bless America.
