Investigation continues in July 3 fatal shooting

COVINGTON — A 35-year-old Newton County man was shot and killed on Thursday and authorities are looking for three people believed to be involved in the shooting. According to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, Adrian Ricardo Brooks was shot in the abdomen around 8 p.m. Friday in the Gum Tree neighborhood off Kirkland Road. Sgt. Michael Cunningham said the victim’s girlfriend called 911 to report the shooting and three unknown men were seen fleeing in a vehicle similar to a white Toyota Camry soon after the shooting. Brooks was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis said Brooks’ body was transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation where an autopsy was conducted Saturday morning.

“He died of a gunshot wound and the manner of death is a homicide,” Davis said.
