Reagin leads Post 32 to area win

The Covington Post 32 American Legion team bounced back nicely from just its second loss of the season.

Dalton Reagin had a dominant start, tossing seven shutout innings and post 32 defeated Alpharetta Post 201 5-3 Tuesday in a North Georgia Area game at Alcovy High School.

Reagin, a recent Alcovy graduate, allowed just three hits (and one hit batsman), while striking out 12 batters in a 106-pitch outing. Post 32, which improved to 14-2, was coming off a loss to Jacksonville (Florida) Post 283 in the championship game of the Paul Eames Tournament in Albany.

“(Reagin) had struggled in the past a little bit, yesterday he had everything working, his curveball was working fantastic, he was on with all of his pitches. Threw a fantastic game,” said Covington coach Eddie Bagwell. “It worked out well. He really wanted to finish the game but he was at too many pitches.”

Domenic Bazzani and Hunter Phillips gave three runs back in relief of Reagin before Zach Beggs allowed a single in the ninth, then struck out the final three batters to pick up the save.

“Beggs has proven to be pretty solid for us late in the ball game,” said Bagwell. “He came in and did what needed to be done. We were fatigued, we just played a lot of baseball over the weekend.”

Bazzani, a Georgia Perimeter College signee, and Beggs led the offense with a pair of hits each.

The game between Covington and Loganville Post 233, which was originally scheduled for today at Alcovy, was postponed. Post 32 will next host Peachtree City Post 50 Tuesday with first pitch set for 7:30 p.m.
