“Really? The Covington Police Department is eluded by a 50-plus break-in robber and, yes, windows have been smashed. All the cars were not left unlocked. I think CPD is lazy. Back out of the doughnut shop and solve this.”

——

“I am a conservative and I will never vote for Keith Ellis or John Douglas again.”

——

“If Newton is ever going to do well we need to clean house of Hunter Hall at the Chamber. Look how many people have left the COC in just two years. All that is coming here is fast food and dollar stores. They said it the other night— nothing since Baxter in 2012 major has come and the credit for that is not his. The BOC needs new blood so they can control the Chamber and stop the nasty businesses and the awful look of 278. No wonder Baxter has only 10 of 100 or so coming here. I would not come here either. It will be same old same old if we don’t clean out Chamber leadership and soon.”

“Enough already. I use to look forward to the Citizen Poll but, lately it is more of a space for venting about the school board. OK, they have a lot of shortcomings and I for one don’t agree with much of anything that takes place with this board, but enough already. Some have found a way to shout, scream and holler weekly about the board itself or individuals on it. I for one am tired of it. These people were voted into office, get over it. It’s apparent the majority of the voters in their respective districts are satisfied with their less-than-stellar performances. I voted against the current board member in my district and was shocked that a more qualified candidate wasn’t elected, but that’s the American way. I don’t know who the writers/whiners are, but suspect it’s only two or three writing multiple letters or calls under aliases. We’ve been down that road before with the Carpenter fiasco. Newton Citizen, you amaze me that you continue to fill your pages with this rubbish. Welcome Baxter employees, word of advice put your kids in a private school.”

Editor’s note: We would welcome comments on a wider variety of topics. Thank you for your comment.

“Why was the Newton High principal packing it in today and told to leave. Is this why we have a 7:45 a.m. Tuesday?”

Editor’s note: The principal resigned due to “personal reasons.” Further information on the resignation was not provided by the former principal or the school system.

——

“When they announced John Ellenberg as principal we all cheered and cried with joy. Thank the good Lord for this change. Now the paper needs to do their job. We heard he was asked to resign. Has the paper looked into that and have you looked into (a coach) and the monies related to that? Can you report what we all pretty much know? Your article makes it sound like the graduation rate spread sheets were the problem, but we think there is more you need to report.”

——

“So what is the real story about Eclan David’s abrupt resignation from Newton High? Newton County has a bad record of bad hiring. Alcovy has had a bunch of principals in a few short years and so has Newton. Why? Is hiring done for the right reason or are we trying to meet quotas that end up being unable to do the work?”

——

“Is money involved in the Newton High principal deal? If so the public should know this.”

——

“I have been reading up on the Baxter stuff and talkin’ to folks. The turnover of principals in Newton is a bad sign of school chaos. ‘Nuff said.”
