COVINGTON — Newton Medical Center has postponed its emergency drill originally set for today due to the winter storm conditions.
The Covington Police Department, SWAT team members, EMS, Newton Medical Volunteer Services and the Newton County Career Academy had planned to conduct the routine drill in order to prepare for a situation where patients, visitors and staff are at risk of being confronted by a person with a weapon or of being involved in a violent crime/hostage situation.
“Unfortunately, the winter weather has stressed the police departments staffing levels as can be expected,” Dick Szeliga, NMC’s director of engineering, said Wednesday.
Szelgia said the drill is being rescheduled for either Feb. 6 or Feb. 13.
