As the quartet of Ayanna Mitchell, Jennifer Tindi, Taylor King and Shay Tarver goes so go the Salem girls basketball team. In perhaps no other game was that on display than Friday against Clarke Central.
The foursome combined for all but two points in Salem’s 67-45 victory in Athens.
Salem won its 15th consecutive game in improving to 17-2 overall and 13-0 in Region 8-AAAAA.
Mitchell, one of the top juniors in the state and still unsigned, had 24 points and 10 rebounds, Tindi had 14 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots, King chipped in with 14 points and five of the Seminoles’ 14 steals and Tarver scored 13 points.
Clarke Central had its four-game winning streak snapped in falling to 8-4 in league play and 11-4 overall.
The other top team in the county also handled its business Friday. Behind 18 points from Rashad Jones and 10 points and 13 rebounds from Trevor Campbell, the Heritage boys defeated Gainesville 65-53.
After a season-high three-game losing streak from January 11-17, Heritage has won consecutive games and is 16-5 overall and 9-3 in Region 8-AAAAA.
