Police seek woman in lip-cutting incident

COVINGTON — A Covington woman is facing charges for allegedly cutting a man on the lip with a knife during an argument.

The victim contacted the Covington Police Department just after midnight Tuesday to say he had been assaulted outside a home on West Street.

The man told the police officer that he had been walking up the street when he encountered the suspect.

“(The victim) stated that he and (the woman) began to argue about him seeing his ‘baby’s mother,’” the incident report states. “(He) stated that quickly during the argument that (the suspect) produced a bent-up knife and cut his face.”

When the victim said he was going to call the police, the woman took off her head wrap, threw the knife down and took off running, according to the report.

While being treated by EMS at the scene, he identified the woman by a booking photograph the police officer showed him. Medical personnel told the victim he needed to be transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta to see a plastic surgeon due to the severity of his injury.

Police soon located the suspect’s head wrap and the knife that was believed to have been used to cut the victim’s lip.

The officer stated that the suspect has an active warrant out of Newton County for failure to appear and a warrant will be taken on her for the charge of aggravated battery.
