Heritage boys hang on against Loganville

Rashad Jones scored 16 points to lead three in double figures as the Heritage boys basketball team defeated Loganville 64-61 Tuesday.

Jones was perfect at the free-throw line, hitting all eight of his charity shots, to help the Patriots snap a three-game losing streak.

“Rashad Jones played well for us tonight offensively, especially since he has been struggling the past few games,” said Heritage coach Vernon Denmark.

Terrell Rainey added 14 points and nine rebounds and San Marteen Rozier chipped in with 11 points for the Patriots, who improved to 15-5 overall and 8-3 in Region 8-AAAAA.

“It was good to go on the road and get a win, especially being at Loganville, which can be a tough place to accomplish that at,” Denmark said.

The Loganville girls knocked off Heritage 48-38 in the first game of the night.

Damali Thomas had 15 points to lead the Patriots (1-19, 1-10), who played much better against Loganville the second time around after a 49-32 loss December 6.

“We battled the whole game and where in it (until) the last two minutes when we had to start fouling,” said Heritage coach Lauren Chambers, whose team has lost four straight games since winning for the first time January 8. “We lost to them by 17 the first time so we definitely played them harder and a much closer ball game this time.”

Gainesville comes to Conyers Friday for a doubleheader, starting with the girls game at 7:00 p.m.

“We still have a lot of work to do,” Denmark said.
