COVINGTON — Two vehicles parked outside the Covington Family YMCA were broken into in broad daylight Thursday morning.
According to incident reports with the Covington Police Department, sometime around 9:30 a.m. a man was seen by people inside the YMCA on Newton Drive breaking into two vehicles.
One of the victims said the offender broke into her 2011 Ford Taurus by knocking the glass out of the left rear door.
“Once inside the vehicle, he lowered the back seat where he was able to remove her purse from inside the trunk,” the incident report states.
The man reportedly stole the victim’s cash, drivers license, debit card and credit cards.
Just about the same time, the rear window of a 2008 Acura parked in the YMCA parking lot was broken. Nothing was taken from inside this vehicle, according to police.
The offender was described as a black male in his 30s, weighing around 200 pounds and wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with a white draw string. He was seen leaving in a blue Mercedes SUV with a Florida license tag.
