MLK breakfast to gather variety of community leaders

CONYERS — Celebrating the 10th annual community breakfast in honor of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Conyers-Rockdale County Chamber of Commerce and the local chapter of the NAACP have planned a special event with a variety of guests.

Willie Gibson, Rockdale County Branch NAACP president, will be the master of ceremonies. The event will take place from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20 at LongHorn Steakhouse, located at 1294 Iris Drive.

Pastor William Headd of Miller Chapel Baptist Church will perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and Pastor Cindy E. Causey of Pleasant Hill CME Church will give the invocation.

According to Fred Boscarino, president and CEO of the Chamber, the focus of the event is community recognition, fellowship and singing.

Sen. Ronald B. Ramsey Sr., D-Lithonia, will give a state proclamation followed by keynote speaker Douglas Hooker, executive director of the Atlanta Regional Commission.

The event will conclude with a song, “We Shall Overcome” performed by Pastor Dexter Killeore of Standing in the Gap Christian Ministries and the benediction by Elder Dan Gilland of Rockdale Baptist Church.

The cost of admission is $10. As in the past, LongHorn will donate all of the food for the event. Proceeds will benefit United Way.
