MCDONOUGH — A co-owner of Southern Belle Farm in Henry County was recently elected American Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee chairman.
Jake Carter attended the annual leadership conference in San Antonio, Texas, and received the honor of serving a one-year term as chairman while he continues to operate his family farm.
The American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers & Ranchers program includes both men and women between the ages of 18-35. The objective of the Young Farmers & Ranchers program is to provide leadership in building a more effective Farm Bureau to expand opportunities in agriculture.
Carter played an instrumental role in transforming the former dairy operation into a 330-acre agritourism destination after receiving his business management degree from the University of Georgia.
Carter is the seventh generation to farm in Henry County and continues to make Southern Belle a family-ran business with his wife, Jennifer and other relatives.
The farm offers activities year-round. Starting in April the farm will open its gates to the public for strawberry picking and educational school group tours. More information can be found at ww.SouthernBelleFarm.com.
