Registered sex offender arrested on child molestation charges

CONYERS — A registered sex offender in Newton County has been arrested in Rockdale County on charges that he molested a 3-year-old family member.

According to the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation has been ongoing for about a year. Investigators were first informed of the alleged abuse on Jan. 14, 2013, when the girl’s mother contacted the Sheriff’s Office after she took her daughter to Rockdale Medical Center.

According to the report, the child had been complaining that her “booty” was hurting and eventually described how the suspect, Anthony Dewayne Levell, had hurt her.

“(The mother) advised when she found out what had happened, she rushed (her daughter) to the hospital,” the incident report states.

Levell was reportedly in the waiting room at that time and was asking to come back to the room to see the child and her mother.

“At that time I did not allow Anthony to come to the back and I advised (her) not to contact him letting him know what was going on,” the deputy reported.

He added that the mother should have no contact with the man until the investigation was complete.

On Monday, Levell, 44, of 35 Bermuda Way in Covington, was arrested and charged with child molestation and aggravated sexual battery.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s website, Levell was convicted of aggravated child molestation in 1997 and has been a registered sex offender since 2001.
