Pet of the Week: Bailey and Oscar are ready for adoption

Bailey is eager to play with his new family. Bailey, a chow-spaniel-golden retriever mix, is about 8 months old and is up to date on all his shots. He is sweet, loves and attention and is very playful. An active family would be a great fit for Bailey. He can be rescued and adopted at Rockdale County Animal Care and Control Shelter at 1506 Rockbridge Road in Conyers. At the Rockdale shelter adoption fees for dogs are $30 and $20 for cats. Spaying or neutering is required for adoption. The shelter is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The phone number is 770-278-8403. (Special photo)

Oscar is a mature dog looking for a mature home. This 2-year-old Dachshund is vaccinated and wormed and ready to adopt his new family. Oscar plays well with other dogs, but is not too fond of puppies, and would be happy to live in a home with adults and older children. Oscar can be adopted at the Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal. (Special photo)

Questions to ask before adopting a pet:

• Can I make a long-term commitment to this pet?

• Will I be able to spend enough time with a new pet?

• Am I prepared for the cost a new pet will bring?

• Which pet is right for my home and my family?
