Covington selects new utilties director

COVINGTON — Tim J. Morris of Loganville has been hired to fill the city of Covington’s role as utilities director.

The city has been advertising the position since May.

"We are extremely excited about Tim’s background and the experience he brings to the city," said City Manager Leigh Anne Knight. " We believe his experience will be very beneficial in taking the utilities department to the next level of service."

Morris holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a professional engineer designation from the state of Georgia.

He is currently employed by Whitehead & Associates Inc. in Atlanta. His work experience includes a stint with Georgia Power Company as well as working independently as a consultant.

“Mr. Morris possesses the demeanor, character and prior experience that the city was seeking in filling the responsibilities recently vacated by Bill Meecham, who retired from the city as of Jan. 1,” said Amanda Edge, Covington’s human resources generalist, in a press release.

Morris will officially start with Covington on Feb. 3.

“I’m very excited that we’ve found someone that’s taken the job and look forward to working with him,” Councilman Chris Smith said.
