CONYERS — Two convenience store clerks were sprayed in the face with a chemical agent in separate robberies over a three-day span, prompting the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office to seek public input in solving the crimes.
The first robbery occurred Saturday at the BP convenience store at 4624 Ga. Highway 138 South. According to the RCSO, the female clerk said two masked white males entered the store shortly after 5:30 p.m. One of the suspects approached the clerk, sprayed her in the face with pepper spray or Mace, and took the cash from the cash drawer before the two men fled.
One of the men was wearing a green camouflage jacket and a ski mask; the other was wearing a dark blue hooded jacket, black hat and white bandana. He was carrying a long object, possibly a machete, according to the RCSO.
In the second robbery, which occurred early Monday morning at the Kangaroo store at 2992 Ga. Highway 155, the female clerk was outside checking a trash can when she was approached by two men, one of whom sprayed her in the face and knocked her to the ground.
According to the RCSO, the men took the clerk back inside the store and ordered her to open the cash drawer. One of the men sprayed the clerk again before they left, taking a rack of cigarette lighters and damaging the front door on their way out.
One of the men was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, and the other was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and carrying a machete.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, ambulances were called to the scene of each robbery, but neither of the victims was transported for treatment.
The suspects are believed to be driving a gray truck.
