Rockdale stays unbeaten on diamond

The Rockdale baseball team kept up its winning ways Monday. Tyler Page didn’t allow an earned run and struck out three in four innings of work and added an RBI at the plate in the Bulldogs’ 9-3 victory over Tucker.

Page won his second game of the season for 4-0 Rockdale, which also got three RBIs from Malachi Eskin, two RBIs from Jelani Clarington and two hits and an RBI out of Terrell McLaughlin.

Rockdale travels to Monroe Ara tonight at 5:55 p.m.

Seminoles win big to even record

Salem bounced back from a season-opening loss to Rockdale in a big way, knocking off Eagle’s Landing 12-1 Monday. Ryan Read drove in four runs and three pitchers combined one-hitter.

Jason Howell allowed the only hit, but otherwise was effective in three innings of work, while Cole Gibson (3 IP, 7 K) and Ndiayemon Harrison (1 IP, 2 K) finished up on the mound. Jordan Scott added a pair of RBIs and Kevin Barham had two hits and an RBI for Salem (1-1).

“We had two good days of practice Thursday and Friday which helped us prepare for this game,” said Seminoles coach Chad Kitchens. Salem will host Tucker in a non-region game today at 5:30 p.m.

Rams roll over Miller Grove

Newton’s baseball team had 13 hits in a 13-2 win in five innings over Miller Grove.

Tristen McInerny was a home run short of the cycle and had three RBIs, while MJ Boykin had three hits and drove in two runs for the Rams, who improved to 2-2.

On the mound, Levi Langford struck out eight and allowed just two hits in a complete game effort.

The Rams went up right away with a four-run first inning, including Shawn Guckenburger’s steal of home plate. Newton added three runs in the second and five more in the third.

Newton, which played Eastside late Tuesday, will host Columbia Friday at 5:30 p.m.
