Covington man dies in one-vehicle crash

CONYERS — A Covington man died Sunday as a result of a one-vehicle wreck on Sigman Road in Rockdale County.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a blue Chrysler Sebring was traveling westbound on Sigman Road, just past Gees Mill Road, when around 1:25 a.m. the car traveled off the north shoulder of the road. The vehicle struck a street sign, continued traveling and struck a large utility pole with the front of the vehicle. After impact, the vehicle overturned off the north shoulder of Sigman Road.

As a result of the impact, 20-year-old Santez Fortson died at the scene, the GSP stated.

The 18-year-old driver, also from Covington, was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center. Another passenger, an 18-year-old man from Lithonia, was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Charges are pending completion of the GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team investigation.
