COVINGTON — Three homes in a relatively new subdivision in Covington have been burglarized and stripped of copper wiring.
On Friday, the builder for Brookline contacted the Covington Police Department to report that two homes on Riveria Drive and one home on Bellarive Lane had been burglarized.
The builder told the CPD that when he arrived at the first residence on Riviera Drive around 9 a.m. he noticed that the garage door had been forced open.
“(He) stated that he went inside the residence and noticed that approximately 16 feet of copper had been taken from a line set in the attic,” the incident report states.
The builder said that nothing else in the residence appeared to have been tampered with. The other two homes were similarly burglarized.
In other news, three homes along Avery Drive in southern Newton County reported their mailboxes were destroyed.
According to the reports from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, the vandalism appears to have been committed sometime between 9 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday. A deputy was called to Avery Drive where he met with two of the homeowners who said their mailboxes were torn off their posts. One of the mailboxes was found in a neighbor’s yard. The third home on Avery Drive is vacant and the homeowner could not be located, the incident report states.
