COVINGTON — Two more teenaged suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old in November in an apparent drug deal.
Steven Robert Dabney, 19, of 1116 Ashely Creek Circle in Stone Mountain, and 17-year-old Christopher Renard Presley of 60 Dayton Way in Covington, were taken into custody earlier this month by the Newton County Sheriff’s Office. Dabney was arrested on Feb. 5 and charged with armed robbery and making false statements to law enforcement, while Presley was arrested Feb. 7 and charged with armed robbery, possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce and abandonment of dangerous drugs.
“Mr. Presley and Mr. Dabney were accessories to the shooting on Gross Lake Parkway,” said NCSO Investigator Michael Cunningham. “Upon further investigation, it was determined top be a drug deal gone bad and Mr. Presley and Mr. Dabney were accessories to that crime. The Sheriff’s Office is still actively looking into this incident.”
The shooting occurred sometime around 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 23. Deputies responded to the pool area on Gross Lake Parkway where they found the victim lying on the ground from being shot in the lower back and left leg, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The teen was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment.
