Lions Club Annual Chili Supper rescheduled

COVINGTON — Due to the icy weather conditions this week, the Covington Lions Club has rescheduled its annual Chili Supper fundraiser to 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Lions Clubhouse at Academy Springs Park on Conyers Street.

The Chili Supper is one of three fundraisers planned this year to raise support for the Lion’s Club, which provides eye exams, eye glasses, children’s clinics, eye surgeries, hearing aids and eyeglass recycling through the Georgia Lions Lighthouse for the Blind, according to a press release from Doreen Stallworth, secretary for the Covington Lions Club.

Lions also work to send donations to the Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind for children and adults at different times of the year, as well as send donations to Leader Dogs for people who need them.

Lions Clubs also send donations to Lions Club International Foundation, which provides aid to disaster areas around the world. Unused eyeglasses are cleaned and sorted, and volunteer groups take them all over the world to distribute to people in need, Stallworth said.

The cost for the all-you-can-eat Chili Supper is $5. Dessert will be available for a donation, and hot dogs will be provided for children. Tickets are available from any Lion member, Mayfield Ace Hardware at the Kroger Shopping Center or you can pay at the door.
