COVINGTON — Once again Newton Medical Center has delayed a routine emergency drill due to inclement weather.
The Covington Police Department, SWAT team members, EMS, Newton Medical Volunteer Services and the Newton County Career Academy had planned to conduct the routine drill at 9 a.m. today in order to prepare for a situation where patients, visitors and staff are at risk of being confronted by a person with a weapon or of being involved in a violent crime/hostage situation.
The original date for the drill was Jan. 30, but that was postponed due to the snow storm that came in earlier that week. Because another wintry ice storm was forecast to move through the state this week and temperatures were not expected to rise above freezing until late today, the hospital will reschedule the drill.
Newton Medical Center is a 97-bed medical facility serving Covington and surrounding areas. For more information go to www.newtonmedical.com or call 770-786-7053.
