Kaya has found herself in a difficult position, and is looking for a home where she can peacefully live out the rest of her years. Kaya is a 13-year-old cocker spaniel who had to be given up by her owner due to the owner’s health issues. She weighs between 15 and 20 pound and is current on her rabies vaccination. Kaya is very sweet and would fit in nicely with a family with adults and older children. Kaya can be adopted at the Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal. (Special photo)

Questions to ask before adopting a pet:
• Can I make a long-term commitment to this pet?
• Will I be able to spend enough time with a new pet?
• Am I prepared for the cost a new pet will bring?
• Which pet is right for my home and my family?
