COVINGTON — Heritage’s tennis team started the 2014 season with a pair of wins on the road as both the boys and girls squads had dominating 4-1 wins over Eastside on Monday.
It wasn’t an easy win for the Heritage girls as two of their three singles matches came down to the third super tiebreaker game.
After Eastside’s Kolyse Wagstaff took the first game 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Heritage’s Bianca Brown tied the set with a 6-4 win of her own. However, Brown was able to come back narrowly beat Wagstaff 13-11 in the tiebreaker game.
Heritage’s Logan Bouchillon took the advantage in the No. 3 singles match blanking Jessica Ugan 6-0. But Ugan regrouped to tie the match with a 7-5 win. But Bouchillon put the loss behind her beating Ugan 10-8 in the third set super tiebreaker to get the win.
Fran Murry had little trouble winning the No. 2 singles match beating Danysha Lamadieu 6-1, 6-3.
Eastside got their only win at No. 1 doubles with the team of Ellen Blockowitz and Emmy Jordan defeating Julie Roseberry and Addie Allegretti 7-5, 7-6 (10-8).
The Heritage girls No. 2 doubles got their win with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Shelby Kelly-Burnett and Taylor Bechtlen 6-4, 6-.
Winning for the Heritage boys were Jay Vinson (6-2, 6-0) at No. 1 singles, TJ Wilson (6-2, 6-2) at No. 2 singles, Ronnie Flow (6-4, 6-4) at No. 3 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Kevin Blum and Derrick Lewis (4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (4)).
