Rockdale dominates NewRock swim meet

CONYERS — Rockdale’s swim team showed their dominance winning all phases of the NewRock swim meet on Saturday, Jan. 25.

Rockdale won the combined team scores with 507 points followed by Heritage with 348, Eastside with 281 and Salem with 44.

In the boys meet, the Bulldogs had six-first place finishes, one more than Eastside, helping them earn their 259 points. Coming in second in the boys meet was Heritage (193) followed by Eastside (93) and Salem (27).

Rockdale also dominated the girls side scoring 248 points with eight wins with Heritage getting the other three. Coming in second place with 188 points was Eastside followed by Heritage (155) and Salem (17).

“This has been a tremendous season. The kids have worked so hard and to see it all come together on Saturday was awesome. We had a complete meet, top to bottom,” Rockdale head coach Stephen Sansing said. “Our girls Medley 200 Relay team qualified for state in the first event of the meet and that set the tone for the whole day. We now have all three relays for both boys and girls qualified for the state meet, which has never happened at Rockdale before. We also have two guys swimming individually at state (Davis Foster and Matthew Bennett) which is also a first. I can’t say enough how proud I am of the entire team for this great season.”

Rockdale’s Damani Young and Foster had four wins including being part of the 200-yard medley and 200-yard free relay teams. Foster also had wins in the 50- and 100- free with Young’s other wins coming in the 100-fly and 100-breast.

Bennett was part of the winning 200-medley and 200-free with Will Hardy swimming in the 200-medley and Patrick Sanders in the 200-free relay’s.

Eastside’s Jack Mitchel got his wins in the 500-yard free and the 100-yard back. Dylan Weathersby got a win in the 200-free with Samuel Stewart getting a win in the 200-Individual Medley.

Matt and Jack Mitchell along with Weathersby and Stewart won the 400-free relay.

Winning the 200-medley for Rockdale were Jasheil Chupuico, Billye Lewis, KeMaya Tucker and Sydney Norton with Chupuico, Tucker, Norton and Ansley Kaiser winning the 200-free relay.

Getting individual wins for the Rockdale girls were Lewis, Norton and Tucker. Norton won the 200-free with Lewis getting wins in the 500-free and 200-IM while Tuckers wins came in the 50-free and 100-fly.

Getting individual wins for the Heritage girls Josie Crane (100-free) and Abby Swindle (100-breast) with the team of Kylie Kersh, Kari Hiner, Toni Lowe and Sarah Jo Greer winning the 400-free relay.
