Jealousy believed to be motive in stabbing

CONYERS — A Covington man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a man and beating his car with a sledgehammer in an apparent jealous rage.

Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 29-year-old William Kit Hawkins of 450 Hinton Chase Parkway this week in connection with an incident that occurred on Jan. 20.

The victim told the responding deputy that he believed Hawkins followed him to a location at Salem Church Road around 3:30 p.m. where they argued. Hawkins then left and returned to the scene about 10 minutes later. It was then that Hawkins stabbed the victim in his left side with a kitchen knife and struck the passenger side of his car with a sledge hammer, the report states.

“(The victim) stated that they were both involved with the same person and Mr. Hawkins is believed to have been jealous,” Deputy Rodney Smith reported.

Hawkins fled the scene through the woods before the deputy arrived, but Smith found the knife and sledgehammer near where the assault allegedly happened. He stated that the victim refused emergency medical assistance.

Warrants were issued for aggravated assault and criminal trespass and Hawkins was arrested Monday.
