Salem girls roll to 18th straight on hardwood

In a regular season full of remarkable highs, the Salem girls basketball team added two more Monday.

Shay Tarver scored 14 points and had five assists, Rosie Kyles added 13 points and the Salem defense allowed its fewest points in its 18th consecutive victory, 63-19 over Apalachee.

The Seminoles, who moved to 20-2 overall, stayed unbeaten in Region 8-AAAAA play at 15-0 and wrapped up the top seed when the league tournament begins next week.

Taylor King hit all four of her three-point attempts for 12 points and Ayanna Mitchell also added 12 points for Salem, the defending region champions.

In the boys nightcap, Austin Samuel’s 22 points weren’t enough as Salem fell 74-70 to Apalachee.

Kristopher Bridgeman added 14 points for the Seminoles (6-18, 3-12 Region 8-AAAAA), who dropped their fifth consecutive game.
