Willette, Rockdale boys finish 7th at cross country meet

Everything came up ‘7s’ for the Rockdale boy’s cross country team Saturday.

The Bulldogs finished seventh as a team, thanks in large part to seventh-place individual finisher Dax Willette, at the Saucony Battle of Atlanta at Nash Farms Battlefield in Hampton.

Willette, just a sophomore, ran in 16:21.44, less than a second behind sixth-place David Savic of Marietta High School (16:20.58). Marietta dominated the event, winning by 74 points over second-place North Oconee, while Rockdale finished only six points back of sixth-place McIntosh.

After Willette, the highest Rockdale placer was Jonathan Butler, who ran in 17:45.24 to finish 42nd.

The Rockdale girls finished 21st with their highest finish coming from Destiny Commodore (95th, 24:21.42).

The Eastside teams struggled at the event as the boys finished 29th and the girls placed 31st. The Eagles’ top boys runner was Patrick Dogherty (95th, 19:01.48), and Taylor Jones led the way on the girls side with a 154th-place time of 27:25.28.
