If there are any “Frozen” fans in your home, you might want to go ahead and grab the apron and get ready to mix up today’s recipe, “Frozen”-themed Chex Mix.
The good thing about using Chex cereal in today’s recipe is that it is gluten-free. But I’m not going to lie — there is nothing else friendly to our waist lines about this recipe. Really, it’s just for fun.
So grab a bowl, pour in some Chex cereal, add a little melted white chocolate and butter to the mix, stir and then add some M&M’s and top with powdered sugar.
Maybe you’ve got a “Frozen”-themed birthday party you are planning, or maybe a little girl’s sleepover is on the calendar, or maybe it’s your turn to take a snack to church, or maybe it’s movie night. No matter what the occasion, the recipe is sure to be a hit.
I suggest the adults try it too. Just put some of the Chex mix aside before you add the powered sugar and M&M’s, making it not nearly as sweet and maybe a little more adult-friendly.
The original recipe I came across called for almost a cup more of powdered sugar than I used, so feel free to use more if you wish to, but I felt it was already plenty sweet.
One last thing — if you have the opportunity, shop around for some blue and silver sugar sprinkles and add the sprinkles instead of the M&M’s. That will make the Chex mix sparkle.
“Frozen”-themed Chex Mix
9 cups Vanilla Chex cereal
1 cup white chocolate chips
1/4 cup butter
½ cup of blue M&M’s
¾ cup of powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla, optional
Measure out the nine cups of Vanilla Chex mix into bowl.
Melt the white chocolate chips and butter in the microwave for 30 seconds, or until smooth. (If you are using the vanilla, stir it in with the melted white chocolate and butter.)
Pour the mixture on top of Chex and gently stir until evenly coated.
Spread the Chex out on to a baking sheet, covered with parchment paper, and sprinkle the M&M’s on top of the Chex.
Sprinkle the powered sugar all over and serve.
Tip: Divide up the Chex mix into “Frozen”-themed snack bags.
