COVINGTON – The Newton High School Sound Factory Marching Band is in the process of raising money for a trip to the nation’s capital next summer.

According to www.gofundme.com, a crowdfunding platform where individuals or institutions can set up accounts to have donations made on their behalf, the school band has been invited to represent the state of Georgia in the National Independence Day Parade in Washington, D.C., on July 4, 2015.

The band’s GoFundMe account states that transportation, lodging and meals will cost $600 for each student. With a total goal of raising $60,000, the band had raised $280 as of Monday afternoon.

The National Independence Day Parade’s website states that the parade will begin on Constitution Avenue and course by the national historic monuments. The parade is co-hosted by the National Park Service and produced by Diversified Events, which is under contract to the National Park Service.
