COVINGTON — “Be well-rested, eat well before and after and be well-hydrated.”
That is the advice of American Red Cross recruiter Janet Jarrett, who organizes blood drives in nine metropolitan counties, including three upcoming Bloodmobile events in Covington.
“We want our donors to walk away feeling good, and the way to do that is to be prepared,” Jarrett said. “So, they should get plenty of rest the night before, eat well before and after the donation and drink lots of water and juices.”
She advised that donors should avoid too much caffeine before donating.
The Covington Family YMCA will sponsor a blood drive Monday. Individuals may donate blood from 1 to 6 p.m. in the American Red Cross Bloodmobile, which will be set up in the Sharp Learning Center parking lot across the street from the YMCA.
The YMCA is located at 2140 Newton Drive, Covington.
On Tuesday the bloodmobile will receive donations from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Kroger store located 3139 U.S. Highway 278. Donors may give blood at Newton Federal at 3175 U.S. Highway 278 from 11 to 4 p.m.
According a YMCA source, this is the first blood drive the organization has sponsored.
“We’ve had a lot of success with blood drives at other counties,” Jarrett said.
So she called the Covington YMCA and organized the event with Kacie Brown, the membership director there.
Signs are posted on Newton Drive advertising the event.
