Charlotte is looking for just the right home, and her new owners can bid on her until May 9. Charlotte is a Chester White pig who is between 4 and 6 months old. Chester Whites are a domestic pig known for their maternal instict, according to some sources. Due to their pale color, these pigs are prone to sunburn and must be given access to shade in the summer. Newton County Animal Control is taking sealed bids for Charlotte now through noon on Friay, May 9. Minimum bid is $50, and the highest bidder will receive Charlotte. The winning bidder must pick her up by noon on Saturday, May 10. To learn more about Charlotte or any of the pets ready for adoption, visit the Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514.
