Peachtree Academy to host 1920s fundraiser

COVINGTON – Peachtree Academy is prepared to go 90 years back in time to the era of flappers and the Charleston, hosting “The Roaring ’20s” on May 3 — a gala with a theme of the revolutionary decade.

Janice Van Ness, CEO of Peachtree Academy, said that the event will include a cocktail reception, dinner and dancing. Additionally, the event will be comprised of a $2,500 raffle along with other prizes. Automobile enthusiasts will have the opportunity to scope out some vintage cars from the ’20s as well as the ’30s.

Attending will be several advocates, families, local businesses and community leaders supporting the non-profit academy. Those who plan on attending have been asked to dress in 1920s-style clothing or cocktail party attire. To inform the guests about the landmark decade, several period displays will be set up throughout the event, portraying the historical significance and popular culture of the 1920s.

This function will serve as a fundraiser for Peachtree Academy, with the money raised going toward various assets of the school.

“The money raised by this gala will benefit the school’s annual capital building campaign for the addition of high school classrooms, a physics lab, completion of the football field, and support our student scholarship fund,” said Van Ness in an email to the Citizen.

Tickets are $100 each, which includes admission, dinner for two and entry into the raffle. The cocktail reception will be from 6 to 7 p.m., while dinner and dancing will begin at 7:15 and end at 10 p.m. However, guests are welcome to stay longer if desired. Peachtree Academy is located at 14101 Highway 278 in Covington.
