COVINGTON – Voters interested casting a ballot before the May 20 primary election can do so at the Newton County Administration building beginning Monday.
Voters can cast a ballot in person at the Board of Elections and Registration Office during regular business hours. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and voters must complete and sign an application after providing one of the six acceptable forms of identification.
The last day for early in-person voting is Friday, May 16.
Voters can also download and print an absentee ballot application from the Secretary of State’s website or request an application from the Newton County Board of Elections and Registration Office.
The request must be in writing and include the voter’s name, address, date of birth, the date of the election for which the voter is requesting a ballot, and the voter’s signature. During a primary, the request must also state the voter’s party preference.
Voters may request to receive an absentee ballot by mail up to 180 days prior to any election. No reason is required when requesting a ballot by mail. The last day an absentee ballot can be mailed to a voter is the Friday prior to the election.
