Longtime WSB Radio and WSB-TV traffic reporter, “Captain” Herb Emory, passed away Saturday.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office told WSB-TV that Emory stopped to help at a car accident on South Burnt Hickory Road when he suddenly fell ill.

Reports stated Emory was taken to the hospital where he suffered a heart attack and died.

Emory had been with WSB since 1991. He served as an Atlanta traffic reporter since 1971.

The network said he was inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame in 2008 and received the inaugural Excellence in Motorsports Journalism Award in 2012.
