CONYERS — The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office is offering a monetary award for information leading to arrests in two robberies, including one that involved a shooting, that occurred Monday night in the Salem Road area.
Investigator Michael Camp said deputies first responded sometime between 10 and 10:30 p.m. to a report of shots being fired on Avalon Parkway When they arrived, they did not find anything, he said. However, just about that same time, a call came in that three people were attempting to break into a car on Country Walk Way.
“A witness to the car break-in told our responding deputies that he had talked with a man who had been shot twice while being robbed,” Camp said.
The victim apparently found someone to drive him to DeKalb Medical Center on Hillandale Road. Hospital personnel then contacted the RCSO. Camp said the man told investigators he was walking in the area of Avalon Parkway when a black passenger car drove up and two men got out, forced him to the ground and robbed him. One of the suspects, a heavy-set black male with a silver gun, shot the victim in the rear left shoulder and a second shot grazed his ear, Camp said. The other suspect is described as a tall light-skinned black male.
The 21-year-old victim was later transferred to Grady Memorial Hospital and was released early Tuesday morning, Camp said.
About an hour after the first armed robbery, RCSO received a call from a woman who said that a black man with a pistol came up to the car she was riding in with two other men while they were stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Country Trace and Country Walk around 10:30 p.m. and robbed them.
Anyone with information about any of these incidents is asked to contact Investigator Grote Levett at 770-278-8165 or Investigator Michael Cobb at 770-278-8154. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling 770-278-8188, going online to www.tipsubmit.com, or through Crime Stoppers Atlanta.
