Rockdale wins six times at Alabama track and field event

Jhibri Greer, Robert McCray and the Rockdale boys track and field team had been impressing in Georgia meets all season. Now the Bulldogs have a handful of national finishes to tout.

Greer and McCray each took home a championship in an event as Greer won the 110-hurdles in 14.71 and McCray was the champion in the shot put (50-00.50) at the Mobile Challenge of Champions at St. Paul’s Episcopal High School in Mobile, Alabama.

Keijne Thomas was runner-up to McCray in the shot put (47-08) and finished eighth in discus (118-03).

That trio competed in Friday’s open division, then on Saturday in the invitational events the Rockdale girls got their showcase. Candace Hill (23.81) nipped McEachern’s Makenzie Dunmore (24.18) to take home gold in the 200-meters and Hill also won a very tight 100-meters 11.69 to 11.74 over Jayla Kirkland of Woodlawn High School (Birmingham, Alabama).

Also Saturday, the Rockdale boys won two relay events in the 400, slipping by Central High School (Phenix City, Alabama) 42.10 to 42.35, and the 1600 (3:20.11 to 3:22.08) over Auburn High School (Auburn, Alabama). Lawrence Crawford capped a strong showing by the Conyers school by running in 10.73 to place fourth in the 100-meters.
