COVINGTON — Mistakes plagued the Tigers all game but a two-run error in the fourth proved to be the difference as Rockdale got a stronger grip for a playoff spot with their 6-4 win over Alcovy on Friday.
The Tigers (7-11 overall, 3-4 Region 2-AAAAAA) committed six errors in the game which led to four Rockdale (12-9, 5-4) runs.
A passed ball in the top of the first inning allowed Willie Hardeman to advance to third base where he scored a Malachi Eskin ground out.
Alcovy was able to come back in the home half of the inning to take a 3-1 lead RBI double by Jessie Gilbert and a two-run single by Brock Carter.
But once again errors came back to haunt Alcovy in the fourth inning as the Bulldogs scored five times, three because of errors.
Jeff Sweat and Terrell McLaughlin were able to tie the game on an error while putting Jelani Clarington, who eventually scored to give the Bulldogs the lead off a Thomas Parker hit, on base.
Rockdale extended their lead to 6-3 when a Will Hardy double plated Davis Foster and Parker.
Alcovy’s Nanpon Ross did all he could to get the Tigers back in the game with a solo home run in the fifth. Unfortunaley for the Tigers, that was the only offense they produced the rest of the game.
Offensively, both teams hit the ball equally well as they each ended the game nine hits.
McLaughlin paced all hitters with three hits while Hardy had two hits. Getting two hits for Alcovy were Austin Richardson, Gilbert and Ross.
