Bryant delivers for Pats in 10th

Freddie Bryant delivered a two-out single that scored Isreal Zackery in the bottom of the 10th as Heritage defeated Flowery Branch 3-2 Thursday at Danny Blue Field.

Flowery Branch had used a two-run sixth inning to tie the game at 2-2 and it stayed that way until the 10th. After two outs, Zackery drew a walk and stole second. Bryant came through with the winning hit, giving the Patriots their third consecutive victory.

“We’re confident, we’ve been in every game that we’ve played, we believe every time that we go out on the field that we can go win,” said Heritage coach Jason Borcherding.

The Patriots received excellent pitching all evening as Matt Studdard started and allowed one earned run in six innings. Domenic Bazzani pitched three hitless innings, striking out six, and Tyler Holcombe relieved Bazzani after a lead off walk in the 10th and retired three batters on eight pitches.

“It was a great team effort on everybodys’ part, each one of those guys coming in and doing their job,” said Borcherding, whose team improved to 12-6 overall and 6-3 in Region 8-AAAAA.
